The Wonderful Hilton Head Family Adventures
The trips you want to take again and again because you loved them so much, well this trip at Hilton Head was one of them.
Hilton Head, South Carolina / September 2023.
This was a trip filled with yummy food, lovely shopping, and fun adventures as a family. Claire and Peter had such a joyful time and brought home some new favorite things from cute boutiques! Our trip to Hilton Head Island with kids was absolutely one to remember!
Our Stay at Hilton Head
We stayed in an ocean front room overlooking the resort at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa, and the room was fresh and comfortable.
We enjoyed The Carolina Room restaurant both for dinner and breakfast and relished the opportunity to dine onsite. At the Carolina Room, our favorite items that we tried were the Scallop and Lobster Pasta and the Okra stew. The breakfast buffet had all of the action, like fresh carrot and ginger juices, and one of the best omelets I’ve had in my life!
Ingredients, the coffee shop on site, was a yummy little addition with a fun name! They offer a delicious egg white, turkey bacon, cheese and croissant and yummy lattes.
Our tiny tots were anxious to stop in at the onsite gift shop. Claire was excited when she saw the Ellie the Elephant Book & a matching Ellie stuffie. She read the book as soon as we read got back to the room.
Shop ‘till you drop
We popped in at 32 Degrees North – Hilton Head and we were extremely pleased with how kind the staff was. The owner and team member were warm and welcoming to us. They plan on adding a measuring chart in their store for kids so families can come back every year to measure the kids, which will be such a fun tradition! I got the most comfortable walking shoes while shopping there and was told by the team that teachers love these shoes because they are very comfortable for standing all day.
We also stopped in at Moonlit Lullaby for some children’s boutique items. Claire got these wonderful Native shoes. She loves these for easy on and off, they are also easy to clean and great for all terrains. She and Peter also picked out matching Bro & Sis shirts that they have asked to put on every morning because they think they are the coolest shirts. Who could blame them? I grabbed some more things for Peter from Moonlit, and will surely be shopping there again. It was a lovely shop with wonderful company!
Play time, or break time?
Claire and Peter had the best time at the Gregg Russell Harbour Town Playground. It was clean, it had very soft sand around it and was nicely enclosed so that parents could easily watch their littles when not playing with them. This was a great chance for us to enjoy them playing, and also get a chance to chat with each other about our trip! The playground was a nice piece of the Hilton Head adventure, before heading to the Harbour Town Lighthouse.
So much to do, see and eat
The lighthouse was a great way for us to incorporate some educational pieces into our trip. Claire and Peter are homeschooled, so on our family explorations, we love to tie in homeschooling and educational things along with the fun and adventure. We knew the lighthouse would be one way for us to do that during our time at Hilton Head!
Aside from Claire being a little afraid of heights, and the wind probably heightening that fear, she was brave and we had a nice time together learning about the town lighthouse.
We also enjoyed a lovely and messy dinner at the Quarter Deck with Shrimp Po Boys which were made the old-fashioned way with a thinner bread – so delicious.
Claire finished off the evening whipping out her air guitar in the street and dancing with Peter, while we listened to the outdoor music near the Harbour Town Pier. Watching the children dance their hearts out without worry of who is watching them, is something that brings such joy to my heart. Their confidence that radiates off of them is so wonderful.
On the road again
On our way out of Hilton Head and back towards home, we traveled a little bit to the Frampton Plantation House, which we found was more of a welcome area.
The staff there was so kind and let us know that they were happy to have families come to visit on their travels to use the restrooms, stretch their feet, and take a look around. Claire and Peter picked out some new stuffies and a kite, and we snatched up this perfect family puzzle that will be wonderful to include in family night or in our homeschool studies.
We found a biking trail that we would have loved to travel on, but Claire and Peter’s balance bikes were not quite strong enough to manage on. Next year, it will be a family hit! We love a good bike trail. It was a lovely little pit stop to explore as a family.
Memories last a lifetime
Claire and Peter are at such fun ages that we enjoy so many of these moments with them, and we deeply hope that they are starting to retain some of these memories for themselves, too. The air guitar and dancing in the street together in Hilton Head is one moment that we will never forget. Watching their little bare feet roam on the beach, as their giggles fill the open air, will echo in my mind always.
Until next time, Hilton Head.
