Mastering the 60-Second Rule: Week 23 of the 52-Week Challenge

Week 23 · 52-Week Family Challenge

Hey there, lovely readers!

The 60-Second Rule

Welcome to Week 23 of our 52-Week Challenge! I’m so excited to share this fun and easy challenge with you and your family. This week’s challenge is the 60-Second Rule: if a task takes less than 60 seconds, do it right away! Simple tasks like wiping up spills, putting away toys, or hanging up your jacket can make a big difference in our daily lives.

60 Seconds

If a task takes less than 60 seconds, do it right away.

Small jobs done right away can become simple habits of responsibility and contribution.

Why Try the 60-Second Rule?

In our household, keeping things tidy can be a struggle, but we’ve learned it’s good to work together to keep our home tidy. When we do, everyone is happier, more relaxed, and in a better mood – especially mom (that’s me!). I love seeing my kiddos, Claire and Peter, pitch in and help out. It makes my heart happy!

60-Second Rule in Action

Here are some examples of how you can apply the 60-Second Rule:

Hang up your umbrella, hat, or jacket when you come inside

Put away your toys after playtime – it’s fun to make room for new adventures!

Wipe down the table after meals

Take out the trash or recycling

Grab anything you need to when exiting the vehicle

Tips to Make it Stick

Don’t Worry if You Fall Off Track

If you forget or get busy, don’t worry! Just remember the weekly challenge and jump right back in. Focus on it for the rest of the day and the rest of the week, and you’ll be back on track in no time – smooth sailing and a cool win!

Get Started

It’s easy! Every day this week, remind yourself (and your family) about the 60-Second Rule. See how many small tasks you can complete in just 60 seconds or less. By trying the 60-Second Rule, you’ll be amazed at how much more efficient and responsible you can become.

This kind of small, everyday participation also connects with the way we think about a contribution-focused childhood—giving children meaningful opportunities to participate in ordinary family life.
