Parenting Challenge: Say Yes a Little More | Here They Grow
This Week’s Challenge: Pause. Breathe. Say Yes.
We live in a culture that shouts, “Say no!”
And listen—no is a full sentence. It’s a word we’ve taught ourselves and our kids to use with confidence. “No” is a powerful boundary-setter. It’s necessary.
But every once in a while, the pendulum swings so far toward “no” that we forget the beauty of saying yes.
So this week, our family challenge is simple—but heart-shifting:
Pause. Check in with yourself. And if you can say yes, say it.
It’s not about becoming a pushover or throwing structure out the window. It’s about tuning in instead of auto-replying. Because let’s be real—sometimes we say “no” before we even hear the whole question.
- “Can I help you make dinner?”
- “Can we go on a walk before bedtime?”
- “Can I wear my dinosaur jammies to church?”
Maybe the answer is still no. And that’s okay.
But maybe, just maybe—there’s space for a yes.
This week’s challenge is about listening more closely and pausing more often. And being open to the little yeses that build connection.

Not the big yeses. Not the yeses that overwhelm your calendar or drain your energy. Just the tiny, ordinary yeses that say:
- “I see you.”
- “I love being with you.”
- “Let’s do this together.”
So, whether it’s your child, your spouse, your sibling, or your own weary heart asking the question, pause and check in.
If you can say yes, say it.
Let’s start a week of soft yeses and open hearts.
